A recent trip up the east coast from New York to Nova Scotia became the visual suggestion for The Path, a new, on-going series of colored pencil drawings on paper. The series progresses with each new drawing a slightly different study in composition and color. I use bold colors to provoke a feeling or sensation that engages the viewer in an emotional exchange with the work. Multiple layers of colored pencil pigment are built up to achieve the intensity and rich tones. The drawings are as much about what is felt, as what is perceived.

ZEN MIND/SILENT DIALOGUE SERIES
"Zen Mind/Silent Dialogue" is an ongoing series of drawings inspired by my interest in meditation and Zen philosophy. Each drawing emerges from a singular contemplative experience. I incorporate the element of chance by allowing the gold, silver or copper leaf to land on the paper at will. Like life itself, this series reflects the elements of simple structure and random events.

Samu #64

THE SAMU SERIES
... is a new, on-going series of drawings inspired by the haiku poetry of the great 17th century Japanese poet Basho. Samu, loosely translated from Japanese, means 'devoted labor' and suggests a right-mindfulness toward one's work, all of one's work.

The Samu Series drawings are created with colored pencils on black paper. Images sizes are 11" x 8.5". These drawings would work well individually matted and framed, or as groupings of three or four.
