ARTIST STATEMENT
"Zen Mind/Silent Dialogue" is an ongoing series of drawings inspired by my interest in meditation and Zen philosophy. Each drawing emerges from a singular contemplative experience. I incorporate the element of chance by allowing the gold, silver or copper leaf to land on the paper at will. Like life itself, this series reflects the elements of simple structure and random events.

THE SAMU SERIES
... is a new, on-going series of drawings inspired by the haiku poetry of the great 17th century Japanese poet Basho. Samu, loosely translated from Japanese, means 'devoted labor' and suggests a right-mindfulness toward one's work, all of one's work.

The Samu Series drawings are created with colored pencils on black paper. Images sizes are 11" x 8.5". These drawings would work well individually matted and framed, or as groupings of three or four.
